Development of Marine Observation Infrastructure and Forecasting Technology for Maritime Meteorological System 2 [November 28, 2019] The Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) has received funds from Agence Française de Développement ("AFD") toward the cost of the Development of Marine Observation Infrastructure and Forecasting Technology for Maritime Meteorological System – 2 and it intends to apply part of the funds to payments under the contract for the implementation of this project. The Employer intends to initially select a maximum of 5 (five) firms for i) providing and install equipment for marine observation and data collection, ii) developping a Met Ocean Forecasting Center and the production & dissemination system, iii) building the Disaster Recovery Center and iv) providing adequate capactiy buidling and training to BMKG. As preliminary information, the following is a brief scope of this work package : Indonesia has a unique geographical position flanked by two continents, Asia and Australia and two oceans, Pacific and Indian. Indonesia is also located on the equator and is an archipelago (maritime continent) with two-thirds of its territory in the form of oceans. The total area of maritime Indonesia nearly covers an area of 6 million square kilometres, or almost 70% of the total area of the territory of Indonesia. With increasing maritime activities in accordance with the work plan of the current government, the demands for the availability of maritime weather information will increase. Pursuant to Indonesian Law No. 31 of 2009, BMKG is the government agency with the responsibility of providing weather and climate information. In this regard, BMKG i s required to provide the most accurate information throughout Indonesia as quickly as possible. The marine meteorological services are recognised as critical to the safety and economics of shipping and offshore operations. Therefore, it is important for BMKG, as an institution authorised to issue marine weather and climate information, to improve the accuracy of marine observations and weather and ocean predictions. |
